“Zoats”

I haven’t always enjoyed oats…When I was younger, in fact, I hated them. I am not exactly sure why but I always chose a cold breakfast. Fast forward a few years…I LOVE oats! In fact…I could eat oats for breakfast, lunch and dinner. When I was an avid dieter, oats were generally on every diet plan that I was ever given. When I decided to do powerlifting though, I needed to reduce the amount of carbs that I was eating (while trying to diet down for a weight class). This was when I decided to substitute some of the oats with some grated baby marrow, to increase the volume, while lowering the carb content. I then wanted to increase the protein content of the meal so I decided to whisk in some egg whites while I was cooking the oats…This quite simply changed my life! The egg whites ALSO add volume to the oats so I have honestly felt like I have been winning at life with this combo. I shared the recipe over on Instagram and I couldn’t believe the positive response I got from it. This was why I decided to put the recipe here so you can find it at any time. Tag me if you decided to give these a go!

Zoats

Ingredients

  • 30 grams instant oats
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp stevia powder or artificial sweetener of choice
  • 100 grams baby marrow, grated (or 2 small baby marrow)
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1 1/4 cup boiling water

Instructions

  1. Weigh your dry ingredients and add to a pot.

  2. Add the boiling water and then put the pot on the stove to cook.

  3. Add the baby marrow and egg whites and stir while the oats start to come to the boiling. When bubbles start to form, lower the heat and then stir for about 2 minutes.

  4. Lastly, add your pb2/protein/superfood etc of choice. Stir together and then enjoy.
